Choc, Avocado and Strawberry Smoothie (serves 1)

Berries are highly nutritious and are a great addition to your diet if you have Parkinson’s. They contain anthocyanins which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and may have neuroprotective effects. Not only are berries sweet and delicious but when eaten as part of the MIND diet a significant association has been shown with slowing progression of parkinsonian signs and protecting against cognitive decline.

SMOOTHIE INGREDIENTS 

  • 150 ml unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ avocado
  • 4 fresh strawberries
  • 1 teaspoon raw cacao powder
  • 1½ teaspoon natvia (natural sweetener)
  • Ice to serve

METHOD

  • Combine almond milk, avocado flesh, strawberries, cacao and natvia in a blender.
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Serve in a glass with ice.

Choc Coconut Smoothie (serves 1)

  • 90ml coconut milk
  • 90ml water
  • 1 teaspoon raw cacao powder
  • 1 teaspoon natvia (natural sweetener)
  • Ice to serve

METHOD

  • Combine coconut milk, water, cacao and natvia in a blender.
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Serve in a glass with ice.
